2008-2009 Orchestra
May 4-8
Darien Lake Music Festival forms are still being collected. We are deciding on what pieces we'll be playing for adjudication. The Moose Ensmble is getting ready for their Utica Zoo Java in the Jungle gig. Thursday, the band will be joining us for our rehearsal of From "The New World" and "Pirates of the Caribbean".
April 20-24
We started the week with a fantastic concert Monday 3rd/4th period with the Borealis String Quartet.Click here for their site to learn more about them.The podcast should be ready by Tuesday. We're still collecting the necessary forms for Darin Lake Music Festival Trip. Please don't wait until the last minute. The sooner we get the money in, the sooner we can order the shirts, sweatshirts, and tickets. Let me know what you would like to play for Darien Lake. We need 1 warm-up piece and 2 pieces to be judged. Thursdays rehearsal was great! Keep practicing and don't ever give up!
April 6-9
This week we started getting the forms for going to Darien Lake.Click here for a copy of the info letter. You'll be picking up another form which is the medical release form...Try to bring in everything either Thursday or Tuesday after vacation...Hope you all have a great vacation!!!!!
March 30- April 3
Wow a full week of school and Orchestra is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! Don't forget to bring in food for the Orchestra Party on Friday..YippeKi Yea! Darien Lake bus will be paid for by Mrs. Brown's Transportation fund. More information will come next week
March 24-27
Thursday is our Concert starting at 6:30. Tuesday we rehearsed on stage with percussionists. Awesome rehearsal! The Moose Ensemble wil be accompaning the choir 2nd and 3rd period Wednesday. Thursday Morning after homeroom the Moose Ensmeble will meet in the Orchestra Room to catch a bus to do the morning program at Jefferson. Wear Colorful colors for the concert and be there no later then 6:00. The Order of the concert is Orchesta, Choir, Band. All are invited and no one should miss this spectacular CONCERT!!!
March 16-20
Tuesday and Thursday is Orchestra Day.The Senior Band's Youth Concertwill be Thursday 3rd and 4th period. Tuesday we will be bringing our chairs up to the stage after our rehearsal. We will need ushers to met the busses and sit with each school. Your responsibilities will be to greet, help, and take students to the bathroom if needed. You will be given Name Tags to wear. Please show up to Orchestra on time. Also Mr. Ukena will be riding a donkey at theAnnual Donkey Basketball GameThursday night. We have a half-day on Friday...so only do half the work....Remember our concert is March 26 at 6:30...Tuning will start at 5:45. Dress is "Look Great!!"
March 9-13
Monday has started and the new music is proudly being played.
Please come to the Board of Education Meeting Tuesday at 5:30to support Mrs. Brown our Administrator of Fine Arts. She was told by the Superintendent that her job will be eliminated as of June 30th. We need parents to talk about how important she is to the Fine Arts Department of the Utica City Schools.
Friday is the Mock 2 hour delay and the beginning of the Jr. All County...Bus leaves at 2:30 and arrive back at Proctor around 9:50. Saturday morning bus leaves at 7:50...If you need aride home after the concert please let me know ASAP.Remember our CONCERT is on the 26th and starts at 6:30!!!
February 23-27
Monday we waited forever for people to finish talking about what they did during vacation..I didn't notice too many Florida Tans so I guess not many traveled. So Monday was pretty much"get re-aquainted-with-your-instrument"day. We ran through most of the songs in our folder. Wednesday was a great rehearsal...alot of changes in intonation where heard and hopefully fixed. Please...if you need copies for home practicing..pls see me after school and I'll get some made for you. In past years I have made copies of all the music and ended up throwing alot out... so this year I thought I'd save some trees and not copy so much for home copies. Any suggestions on getting music home and actually practicing it?METSGrapefruit Spring training games started on Wednesday!

February 9-13
Thursday we'll listened to the second mvt. of "I'm Inclined to Knock Music"...please be sure to bring in all the necessary forms for the Jr. High All County...You know who u r!
Tuesday we actually listened to a recording of Mozart's Eine Kline Nachtmusik 1st movement. As I mentioned in Orchestra...I don't believe some of the students knowhowto listen to music. We're so use to multi-tasking when listening to music, that the essence, quality, and importance of sound escapes us. Try changing the way you listen to music by closing your eyes or sitting in a comfy chair. Don't move, eat, text anyone, or be distracted by anything. Let me know what changed. MUSIC should never be taken for granted!!!
February 2-6, 2009
This week we got sizes for colorguard. Worked on the Jr. High All County with the selected musicians. Found out that we can't buy lunch in the cafe and bring it into the Orch room. So if you want to eat your lunch, you have to bring it in from home. It was freezing -17 below Thursday according to the radio. Check out the pictures on the new photo page. On Friday we had a 1/2 day and went through the Orchestra Music at the speed of light. Rental Contracts went out to those that are renting! Jr. High All County students finally received their packet of information.

Here we are about to get ready for another week without Orchestra...no Pirates, no Ice Castles, no stupid music jokes from me. To help you through this down time...comment on the music you are listening to whether it's on your ipod, zune, radio, itunes, whatever....let's hear from you!
